It's Time to Talk...

First of all I want to thank anyone and everyone who has stopped by my little part of the this huge world we call the internet. I am so honored that you have taken the time to stop by and hear what I have to say, see what I have created, and tried out some of my ideas in your own classroom.

I have known for a couple of weeks and now it's time to tell you. It has taken me that long to get use to the idea myself because it was not exactly what I wanted to do. I will be changing jobs next year. I will be leaving the classroom to teach transition. What is transition...you ask.

It is 5th graders who need some work on 4th grade skills in order to pass a test.

I have taught Fourth Grade before and usually tutor them. As a matter of fact, I did this past year after school for a couple of months. Also, my administrators were very complimentary of me, what I do and gave me exact reasons at to why I was the right person for this job. My friends also agreed. THANKS friends!

I will definitely miss my little first grade friends and this will be a very sad end of the year for me. I plan to cherish every minute of it.

So, what about my blog???

I'm not changing it! My heart still belongs to First Grade!

Many years ago, long before blogs and TPT, when I thought about publishing my activities is when I first came up with the name First Grade...a la Carte. So when I contemplated creating a blog it was a natural fit. The name came from the way I teach. I pick and choose from many resources in the way that one picks and chooses from a buffet or salad bar. It will just become a little more diverse. I plan to broaden the scope of my games and activities to include more grade levels like say 4th grade.

I hope that you will continue to stop by and check to see what I'm up to.

So in the spirit of my blog, I have to have some cute graphic because my posts are usually full of them.
I will sign off tonight with this...

Here's a thought from my experience in changing from First Grade (25+ years) to Reading Intervention K-5: I was afraid I wouldn't be able to work with and teach the fifth grade students. Five years ago I quickly found out that fall that they act almost exactly like First Graders!! Just bigger bodies...especially the children that need my help! They bring just as much joy to my teaching as the little ones. Enjoy your new assignment!♥♫

The students you will have next year are so lucky to have you as their teacher. I have enjoyed learning from you. You are creative and I am sure you will continue to bring them the right balance of things they need to become more successful in and out of the classroom. I love the reason for your blog name. Very fitting.

I feel your pain! I am changing positions AGAIN next year and I'm trying to have a positive attitude about it as well. I will be doing small group instruction, Title I, position. My principal wants me to help implement more technology in the classrooms. Good luck & thank you for all your resources and ideas that have helped me out in my first (hopefully not last) year in Kinder!

Two years ago, my change was from special ed to first grade. New Principal had the wonderful idea that this would be the answer to all of those struggling first graders who should have stayed in kindergarten. Did I show her!!! I fell in love with first grade and sent all my little ones off to second grade right where they were supposed to be. You will be awesome. There is always a reason - we just don't always see it. Best of luck.

I so relate to you! I came to teaching 3 years ago from 20 years in architecture and have loved teaching K and 1st for the last 3 years. During that time I have also tutored mainly middle schoolers in math and reading after school. This year my principal asked me if I would teach 6-8th grade Science next year at our school. I said yes, and so the transition begins. Like you, I still love first grade and creating for first grade and will be keeping up my first grade blog as well as starting a new one to go with my middle school journey. Cheers to new beginnings!

Hurray for you in your new journey! It sounds like you are the perfect fit for this position based on your love of kids no matter the age and your love of teaching. While I know how much first grade will miss you, I am sure you will do great things in this new position. And you can bet I'll stay tuned in! Have fun!!
